Patrice Evra Profile |
Born as a son of a diplomat, Patrice Evra went through an incredible journey from playing at a small club in Sicily, Italy, to a Champions League final with underdog AS Monaco and finally arrived and established himself at the Theater of Dreams, the Old Trafford with Manchester United. In January 2006, Evra arrived at Old Trafford. It was an emergency transfer due to the fact of an injury plague in the Manchester United camp. He arrived just days after the signing of Nemanja Vidic. Unlike Vidic, Evra was a popular footballer in Europe at that time. He was one of the most wanted left-back, clubs like Internazionale, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chels`ea are the clubs other than United who wanted his signature. But Evra decided to go to United, because like he said, he only wants to sign with the best, play with the best and managed by the best. Now that’s an attitude…
However, Evra found it hard to adapt to the English game during his first months at Old Trafford. Fergie rotated the left back position between him, Heinze and O’Shea. It did not take long however for Evra to adapt and claim his regular first team starter spot. As a left back, Evra is the kind of cut and slice left back. He doesn’t deliver crosses often, but he uses his speed and pace, playing one-two with the midfielder to get himself forward and right into the penalty box. This playing style often forced defenders to foul him and give United a good position for free-kicks. In 2006-2007 season, Evra earned a place in the PFA Team of the Year, cemented his place as the best left back in the English Premier League. From a humble club in southern Italy, to a massive football giants in Manchester United, Patrice Evra’s career is like a fairy-tale, and this fairy-tale is not going to end soon…
